Like fabric and/or a locket pinned to it that the bride never mentioned to me. When I asked bout it, she said the fabric was part of her great grandmother's wedding dress and the locket was given to her by her grandmother. If I didn't ask about that, i'm not sure she would have told me and I would have never gotten a shot of it!

Although, keep in mind Just because a photographer costs a lot. does not mean the value reflects their quality or experience. Look at their portfolio, ask those questions and check their general “vibe”. Are their packages clear and have a substantial value over other photographers? What are they basing their pricing off of?

1. Quality Camera Equipment:
The proficiency of a photographer hinges on the tools at their disposal. Don't hesitate to engage your photographer in a conversation about the equipment they intend to deploy on your special day. High-quality cameras and lenses stand as the bedrock for capturing images that are not only sharp but burst with vibrant clarity. You don't need to be a gear aficionado, but it's vital to ascertain that your photographer wields professional-grade equipment.
Now, some of you might not be in the loop of the technicals so here are some things that separate professional equipment from hobby equipment. If your a photographer reading this part, understand i'm trying to explain these concepts to someone who has possibly never held an SLR or studied photography to any capacity so these tips are extremely watered down.
One thing to ask is if they are using full frame cameras, these tend to perform better in low light situations than non full frames. Although this gap is shrinking with the advancement in tech, for example Fuji does not manufacture full frame cameras because they are confident in their camera manufacturing capabilities.
Another thing is, on or off camera flash/lighting. If the photographer does not use any additional lighting at all, this is a red flag. Mostly for the reception time as it’s so dark it’s hard to get a decent photo. I'd consider on camera flash only is intermediate level and off camera is advanced level of experience.
One last thing are lenses. Preferably, you would want your photographer to use “fast” lenses. These lenses have a f/4, f2.8 or lower in their title. These numbers directly relate to how a camera captures and performs. Generally improving camera auto focus speeds and image clarity
2. Backup Equipment:
Even the most dependable camera equipment can occasionally falter. This is where the importance of backup gear becomes evident. A professional photographer should invariably be armed with spare cameras, lenses, and flashes, serving as a fail-safe against unforeseen technical hiccups.
A photographer might have 2 cameras at all times and those cameras might have 2 sd card slots with one card for each camera just being a backup. Although you will come across photographers who do not have some of these things. Personally, my camera does not have 2 SD card slots for redundant backups but, what I do to combat this is that I spread the whole day over multiple cards. Getting ready / before the ceremony, the ceremony, family formals, and the reception all have their own memory card. That way, if something happens to a card, the whole day isn't gone! I also don't use 2 cameras at the same time but I do have one as a backup.

In my own experience, I encountered a sudden rainstorm during an outdoor wedding shoot. The tent they had fit just the wedding party and the guests. Unfortunately for me, there was no space to walk around under the tent so I had to walk around the tent, in the rain to get any decent angle. Fortunately for the couple, I had a rain cover for my equipment so even though I was drenched, my equipment stayed dry and was able to shoot the entire time!

Contracts and Legalities:
Alright, lovebirds, we've journeyed through the creative and technical facets of selecting your wedding photographer. Now, let's delve into the realm of contracts and legalities, a slightly less thrilling yet undeniably vital aspect of this process. 📜🤝💒
1. The Importance of Contracts:
Once you discover the perfect photographer for your special day, you'll probably receive a contract. This isn't just a mere formality; it's a fundamental protective shield for both you and your photographer. A meticulously crafted contract delineates all the terms and conditions of your agreement, ensuring that your rights and expectations are upheld.
Taking the time to read the contract attentively is paramount, and never hesitate to seek clarification if any part seems unclear.
2. Copyright and Usage Rights:
Within your contract, the copyright and usage rights section stands as one of the utmost critical components. This segment delineates the ownership of your wedding photos, the permissible ways they can be employed, and any associated constraints. It's imperative to be entirely at ease with the clauses governing your photos, especially if you have particular intentions for their sharing and utilization.
Check out 17 U.S. Code § 201 - Ownership of copyright to read the legalities of copyright but, in short this is what it says:
Copyright initially belongs to the author or authors of a work.
(The photographer.)For works created as "work for hire," the employer or commissioner owns the copyright by default unless there's a written agreement stating otherwise.
(The photographer owns the images unlessed specified in the contract.)In collective works, each author initially owns their contribution's copyright, unless they explicitly transfer it.
(If the photographer has an assistant, the assistant owns the photos unless specified in a contract. Usually between the photographer and the assistant.)Copyright ownership can be transferred or sold to others, either in whole or part, and each transferred right can be owned separately.
(This explains that the owner of the images can sell or transfer ownership of the copyright. This could be shared ownership or limited ownership)Involuntary transfers of copyright ownership are generally not recognized, except in specific situations mentioned in Title 11 of the law, which likely pertains to bankruptcy matters.

With that in mind, dont freak out if you aren't given the copyrights of your wedding photos. Very rarely do photographers give or even sell copyrights. If they do so, they don't own the images and won't be able to use them for commercial advertising, like in their portfolio.
Oftentimes, you will be given or sold “print rights” where the photographer licenses you full resolution copies of the images for you to print where and whenever you like. This does not allow you to make additional edits or claim them as photos you took.
Ask the photographer how they handle print rights or copyrights as each one handles them differently. Personally, I do not include print rights or copyrights as I want to be sure the quality of the print matches my quality standard. All too often have I heard “I got these printed at walmart and they look terrible!” Well yeah, its walmart. I don't want you to go through that.
3. Payment Terms and Schedules:
